With the Brewers leading the National League Central and the Mariners battling for the top spot in the American League West, fans in Milwaukee and Seattle—what I have long considered the two most under-appreciated great Baseball cities in America—are hopeful this could be their year.
Brewers fans would love to see their team reach the World Series for just the second time ever after a gut-wrenching seven-game series loss to the Cardinals in 1982. The Brewers join the Padres, Rockies and Rays as one of only four current franchises to have reached the World Series but to have never won one.
Meanwhile, the Mariners—born in 1977 and playing their 50th season—are the only current big league club that has never even appeared in a World Series.
But as-yet-unfulfilled championship dreams aren’t the only thing that bonds baseball in Wisconsin and the Pacific Northwest.
