With today being April Fool’s Day, I couldn’t resist either sharing or—in some of your cases—resharing the now 41-year-old story of Sidd Finch.

41 years ago today—on April 1, 1985—Sports Illustrated dropped one of the most audacious stories in sports media history, introducing readers to a mysterious New York Mets prospect named Sidd Finch. He was described as a reclusive, Harvard-educated former monk who wore a single hiking boot, spoke multiple languages and—most importantly—could throw a baseball harder than anyone who had ever lived.
